DUKFT Director Tristan Smith gives evidence to UK Government Environmental Audit Committee

The Environmental Audit Committee (EAC) launched the Net Zero Aviation and Shipping inquiry in July 2021 to look at how the aviation and shipping sectors can best achieve net zero emissions.

The EAC held an evidence session inviting Tristan Smith, Director of DUKFT and Reader in Energy and Shipping at UCL Energy Institute, along with representatives from the shipping industry.

Tristan highlighted missed opportunities in the most recent government publications regarding decarbonisation of shipping, and laid out steps that need to be prioritised within the next decade to ensure rapid transition is possible to reach global shipping emissions targets in 2050.

Tristan and DUKFT Programme Manager Nishatabbas Rehmatulla also submitted written evidence to the committee.
